New help for charities, from HMRC

HMRC Charities has recently set up a new dedicated Outreach Team to offer help and support to charities to enable them to get things right first time.

The new team, located in Bootle, is comprised of 15 members.  The team’s objective is to help charities understand, benefit and claim reliefs through Gift Aid, the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS) and the National Insurance ‘Employment Allowance’.

Amongst other things, the team will:

  • Identify charities that need help making Gift Aid and GASDS claims or completing registration or variation forms, and contact them by phone, e-mail or post to help them complete the task and support them so they are better able to complete future claims / forms.
  • Work with the guidance team to improve HMRC guidance and forms, making them simpler and clearer to help charities get it right first time.
  • Use social media and other online tools to reach out to support charities, and spread awareness and understanding of Gift Aid, GASDS and the Employment Allowance.

The Team will also be available for contact by charities wishing to access HMRC support on Gift Aid, GASDS and the Employment Allowance.

A dedicated telephone line for the Outreach Team is yet to be set up. So, for the time being, charities can access team members by calling the HMRC Charities Helpline on 0300 123 1073 and asking to be forwarded to the Outreach team.

Opening hours are 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. Closed weekends and bank holidays.
